Voice Memos transcripts as text
Every recording's transcript as text on your Mac, including the ones Voice Memos never transcribed.
Steps
- On macOS 27, press “Connect” beside Voice Memos on Exporter’s home and press “Select This Folder” in the panel.
- Choose where the notes go, like
~/Documents/voice-memos, and press “Use This Folder”. - In Options…, set Transcribe In to the language you speak in your recordings.
- Press “Sync Now”. The notes arrive first; the recordings Voice Memos never transcribed are heard after, newest first.

Each note has the transcript under ## Transcript, in paragraphs that start with their time in the recording. Search the folder in Finder or Spotlight, or open it in any editor. The front matter says who wrote the words: voice-memos or this-mac, the language, and how sure the model was.
Pitfalls
- One language at a time: a recording in another language comes out wrong or not at all. Change Transcribe In and it is heard again.
- When the model is not sure, nothing is written. That is on purpose: a note never carries words it made up.
- Your 20 newest recordings are free; Unlock Voice Memos is one purchase for the rest.
Every field is in the Voice Memos docs.
