Reminders as checklists in Obsidian

Steps

1. Connect Reminders. Press “connect” on the Reminders card and select the folder the panel opens in. Exporter reads the Reminders store there and nothing else.
2. Pick a folder inside your vault. Press “select export folder” and choose a folder in the vault, like Reminders. A folder right in your home gets a reminders-export folder made inside it; a folder inside a vault is used as it is.
3. Choose the lists. Every list is ticked. Untick the ones you do not want in the vault; the “shared” pill shows the lists other people share with you, and “recent” the ones that changed last.
4. Press “sync now”. Each list becomes one file, groceries.md, with a checkbox line per reminder. From then on a list is rewritten within a minute of a change in Reminders.
5. Query them. In Obsidian, a Dataview task query over the folder lists what is due: TASK FROM "Reminders" WHERE !completed AND due.

What you get

One file per list. Each reminder is a checkbox line with its title, then the fields Dataview reads inline: due, priority, flagged, notes, url, recurring and the reminder’s hashtags. Subtasks are indented under their parent. Completed reminders sit under a Completed heading, so the file is the history of the list, not just today’s to-dos. Every line ends with a link that opens the reminder in Reminders and a block id, so a daily note can point at one line. A shared list names its owner in the front matter. Images attached to a reminder are copied into attachments/ and embedded under the line.

Pitfalls

• The sync is one way. Ticking a box in Obsidian does not complete the reminder; the next sync rewrites the line from Reminders. Tick in Reminders.
• Your first 100 reminders are free, newest first. A list with more than that holds only the free ones until you unlock Reminders, and then fills up on the next sync.
• Two lists with the same name each get a short id suffix in the file name. Rename one of them in Reminders if you want clean names.
