Safari to Obsidian
Your bookmarks, Reading List and history as notes in your vault, kept in sync.
Steps
- Press “Connect” beside Safari on Exporter’s home and press “Select This Folder” in the panel, without choosing anything.
- Choose a folder inside your vault, like
~/Obsidian/Vault/Safari, and press “Use This Folder”. - In Options…, tick what each file carries: Page Snippets, Topics and Icons are ticked; tick Page Text to have the text of every bookmark and Reading List page in your vault.
- Press “Sync Now”.
What you get
bookmarks/ has a note per bookmark folder, named as Safari shows it, reading-list/ a note per page you saved, saying when and whether you read it, and history/ a note per day. topics.md lists every topic with its Wikidata link, its pages and links to the days you read them, so the graph shows what you read about.
Pitfalls
- Page Text fetches pages from the web once, from your Mac, without your cookies: a page behind a sign-in comes back without its text, and its file says why.
- Links follow Settings › Markdown: wikilinks or standard Markdown.
- Bookmarks and the Reading List are free in full; history past the newest 10 days needs Unlock Safari.
Every field is in the Safari docs.
