Guides Keep Safari history

Keep your Safari history

A file per day of your Safari history on your Mac, kept after Safari forgets the day.

Steps

  1. Press “Connect” beside Safari on Exporter’s home and press “Select This Folder” in the panel, without choosing anything.
  2. Choose where the files go, like ~/Documents/safari, and press “Use This Folder”.
  3. Leave History ticked on the Kinds tab. On the Sites tab, untick any site you would rather not keep.
  4. Press “Sync Now”. New visits follow as you browse.

What you get

~/Documents/safari/safari-export/history/
  2026-10-19.md
  2026-10-20.md
  topics.md

A file per day: a heading per hour, a line per visit with its time, title and address, newest first. On macOS 27 each visit also carries Safari’s own few lines of the page and its topics. Safari keeps about a year of history; a day it forgets keeps its file in your folder.

Pitfalls

  • Your newest 10 days of history are free; Unlock Safari is one purchase for all of it.
  • Private windows keep no history, so there is nothing of them to keep.
  • Every Safari profile writes into the same days, each visit marked with its profile when you connect Safari’s second folder.

Every field is in the Safari docs.
