Phone Calls
How the Phone Calls export works, from connecting to fixing problems.
Connect
Press “Connect” beside Phone Calls on Exporter’s home. A panel opens on the call history folder; press “Select This Folder” without choosing anything, so Exporter may read your calls. Then choose where the files go.
The call history is the one your Mac keeps: FaceTime calls, audio and video, and the phone calls your iPhone shares with this Mac.
Voicemail
Voicemail is a second folder, asked for only when you want it. On the card, open the Voicemail tab and press “Connect”; the panel opens on FaceTime’s folder, where your Mac keeps voicemail. Press “Select This Folder” without choosing anything.
Each voicemail becomes a note with the transcript Apple made, and its recording is copied beside it. The call that left it links it, and the person’s file lists their voicemails, newest first.
Names
With Contacts connected in Exporter, a file’s title, its heading and each line carry the person’s name. The files stay named by the number or address, so a new name in Contacts never moves a file.
Where the files go
A folder right in your home folder, like ~/Documents, gets a calls-export folder inside it:
contacts/+447700900123.md: a file per number or address, every call with them, newest firstdays/2026-10-27.md: a file per day with a call, its calls oldest firstvoicemail/2026-10-27 +447700900123.md: a note per voicemail, named by the day and the callervoicemail/audio/: each voicemail’s recording, named as its note, in the format your Mac keeps it
What each file carries
A person’s file has title, id, created (the first call), modified (the last), source_url (a tel: link), phone, then total_calls, answered, missed, incoming, outgoing, total_duration and, with voicemail connected, voicemails. Each line is the direction, the day and time, video, ❌ when missed, the length, and a block id you can link to.
A day’s file counts the day’s calls, answered and missed, and the time on the phone. A voicemail note has from, duration, unheard, call (the call it belongs to), audio and, when Apple says, confidence, then the transcript.

Free and unlocked
Your 50 most recent calls are free, each with its voicemail. A voicemail older than your call history counts as a call. Unlock Phone Calls is one purchase for every call.
Command line
exporter export --source calls --dest <folder> writes the same files into a folder granted on the Command Line card. See the command line.
Problems and fixes
- The panel says it is not the right folder: open it again and press “Select This Folder” without choosing anything.
- No phone calls, only FaceTime: your iPhone shares its calls with this Mac only when they are on the same Apple Account and Calls on Other Devices is on.
- A voicemail has no transcript: Apple did not transcribe it; the note says so and keeps the recording.
- Names are missing: connect Contacts in Exporter; the next sync adds the names.
