# Export Linear to Markdown

One file per issue, project and document on your Mac, kept in sync with your workspace.

[Download for Mac](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/exporter-notes-to-markdown/id6741618455?mt=12)

## An issue, as a file.

The front matter carries its id, team, state, priority, assignee, labels and project. Then the title, the description and every comment.

`NW-142 Invite flow.md`

```markdown
---
title: "Invite flow"
id: "NW-142"
created: 2026-10-02T09:14:08Z
modified: 2026-10-14T16:40:31Z
source_url: "https://linear.app/northwind/issue/NW-142"
team: "Northwind"
state: "In Progress"
priority: "High"
assignee: "ana"
labels: ["Onboarding"]
project: "Q4 launch"
---
# Invite flow
A new teammate gets the email, opens the link and lands in the workspace.
## What comes out
One file per issue, project and document, in a folder per team, with Projects and Documents beside them.
- Issues with their comments: Every field Linear shows on an issue, in the front matter, then the description and the whole comment thread.
- Projects and documents: A project's status, lead, teams and dates, its description and content. A document with its project and creator.
- Within a minute: Linear tells Exporter's server about every change, and the file on your Mac follows in seconds, a minute at most.
- A rename moves the file: Each file is tied to its issue, not its name, so a renamed issue moves its file and leaves nothing behind.
- Archived means gone: An issue you archive, trash or delete in Linear loses its file at the next sync.
- Read only: Exporter asks Linear to read and never changes an issue, a project or a document.
## How it works
1. Connect Linear: Sign in with Apple, then press Authorize on Linear's page in your browser.
2. Choose items: Issues, projects and documents, all ticked. Untick what you don't want.
3. It syncs: Your workspace arrives as Markdown, and every change after it within a minute.
## Questions
### What does it cost?
The first 7 days are free. Then Exporter Cloud is a subscription in the App Store: Linear on its own, or All Cloud for every cloud source we add, monthly or yearly.
### Why does Linear go through a server?
Linear tells a server the moment something changes, so the server keeps your files current and your Mac pulls them. Your Mac never holds the Linear token.
### Is my workspace stored anywhere?
The files are kept on Exporter's storage in Western Europe so your Mac can fetch them, and deleted 30 days after a plan ends. [Privacy](https://exporter.dev/privacy) has the details.
### Can I use the files in Obsidian or Claude?
Yes. They are plain Markdown with front matter: pick a folder inside your Obsidian vault, or point Claude Code at the folder.
### What happens when I stop paying?
Syncing stops and the files on your Mac stay. Subscribe again and it carries on.
## Against the alternatives
Linear exports issues as a CSV file from its settings, once, by hand.
| | Exporter | Linear's CSV export | Copy and paste |
|---|---|---|---|
| Readable Markdown | Yes | No | By hand |
| Comments included | Yes | No | By hand |
| Projects and documents | Yes | No | By hand |
| Kept in sync | Yes | No | No |
| Price | 7 days free, then a subscription | Free | Free |
